Police Arrested Me Without a Warrant – What Are My Rights in India?

Article 22(1) protects the right to be informed of the grounds of arrest and the right to consult and be defended by a legal practitioner of choice. Article 22(2) provides for production before the nearest Magistrate within 24 hours, excluding necessary journey time, subject to the constitutional exceptions.
