How Is Compensation Calculated When a Homemaker Dies in a Motor Accident? Supreme Court Recognises the Economic Value of Domestic Work

The Supreme Court in Shishupal @ Shish Ram & Ors. v. Surjeet & Ors., 2026 INSC 634, recognised loss of domestic care as a distinct head of compensation and directed that a homemaker's contribution be valued at a minimum of ₹30,000 per month, subject to the principles laid down in the judgment.
